My statement
My name is Parker Alexander Bränn
By day I’m a 27 year old dude working full-time as an electrician in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada; but by night (and weekends and holidays) I’m a 25 year old dude who’s trying to find his own artistic voice in the creative chorus of the world we live in.
I've had a passion for art ever since I figured out how to hold a pencil as a child, but I never really considered myself an artist until recently. I had some struggles throughout my childhood and teenage years, but my art always managed to keep me afloat one way or another. Back in the summer of 2018, I found myself in a position where I had to pull myself out of a very dark place. In pulling myself out, I felt a new sense of freedom that allowed my artistic expression to explode and blossom through my music, visual art, and photography. Through this, I was also able to forge a comfortable style of my own that in its own way reflects my personal path to recovery.
When it comes to my style, I like to portray a very raw, imperfect, and somewhat gritty perspective with a splash of cartooney humour. I prefer sharp, pronounced contrasts and rough linework over a more polished and rounded-over look. That being said, when the piece calls for it, I can always transition to a cleaner, more balanced medium. My usual process is very similar to comic book artwork: I start with pencils, outline with pigment ink pens, and then do any shading with my pens or felt markers. Any additional shading and/or colouring I do digitally with my drawing tablet and art software. However, I'm always open to expand my methods and techniques, so I look forward to any opportunities to do something new and grow as an artist.
